How Mirror Numbers Reveal Hidden Patterns in the World

If you’re in tune with the metaphysical realm, you might already be familiar with angel numbers, aka a sequence of numbers believed to be divine messages from the universe. Maybe you noticed “777” on a license plate on the way home from work and also passed an address labeled as “777 Main St.” Surprisingly, your Target receipt the next day was also $7.77. Clearly, you’re being guided in a specific direction. However, according to numerology, each day provides multiple opportunities for divine guidance in the form of mirror numbers.

In numerology, all numbers possess specific energy — the number one, for example, is a portal to new beginnings, while the number two is all about unity and collaboration. When they’re repeated, as in the case of “111” and “222” their symbolism is amplified and sends a message from your spirit guides that you’re on the right path.

Because there are multiple times a day when mirror numbers appear, it can offer daily reminders to step back and assess spiritual or material pangs you might be experiencing and to proceed with clarity. Below, numerologist Erin River Sunday breaks down the importance of mirror numbers, and how they can give you a chance to pause and reflect.

What Are Mirror Numbers?

Simply put, mirror numbers refer to numbers that mirror each other after the colon. “Mirror numbers are moments when the minutes reflect the hours on the clock,” explains Sunday. “For example, 11:11 and 12:12.” That being said, if you read the hours on the clock in military time, every day brings 24 divine messages that have been right under your nose (er, on the clock, rather).

What’s the Significance of Mirror Numbers?

According to Sunday, you can think of the significance of mirror numbers as a metaphor: “They’re a moment of ultimate reflection. In numerology, when a number is repeated, it’s more important than when it only exists once.” That’s because the recurring number essentially emphasizes the meaning of its lone digit. “Mirror hour numbers are both repeated and reflected, which might point to repeating patterns in your life,” adds Sunday.

Decoding each mirror hour number, though, means you would have to dissect each number involved to create an understanding of what kind of vibe the hour brings. In keeping with our previous example, if you’re seeing the number 12, numerologically, its symbolism would merge the meanings of the separate numbers, 1 and 2, and intensify its overarching themes. Generally, though, mirror hour numbers are moments to zoom out, look within, and consider what in your life needs attention.

What It Means If You Keep Seeing Mirror Numbers

While each hour can bring a specific theme top of mind, mirror numbers are all opportunities for introspection. When it comes to discerning what to do when you’re seeing mirror hour numbers, Sunday says the best way to approach it is to pause and reflect. “The most important thing to do when you see a mirror hour number is to ‘clock’ what you were doing at that time. Notice what you were thinking about, who you were with, and if there was anything specific on your mind,” says Sunday.

Pay close attention to what mirror hour number keeps consistently popping up. What conflicts are you enduring when you catch yourself noticing a mirror number? Is love on the brain, or are you at a crossroads professionally? The universe is pushing you to deeply reflect on these situations. “If you keep seeing these numbers, it could be a message that you have a pattern in your life that needs to be addressed,” says Sunday.

You might be familiar with making a wish at 11:11, for instance, and that’s for good reason. “11:11 is often known as a lucky number, and a time when people make a wish,” explains Sunday. “Because it also has the energy of both two and four, it’s related to partnership energy and success.” On the other hand, “12:12 is a more collaborative mirror number and suggests working as part of a team and/or making new friends. The connections you have are important if you keep seeing this time,” Sunday adds.

Regardless of what mirror number consistently catch your eye, if you’re repeatedly seeing them, it’s a sign that the universe wants you to step away from the bustling energy of the material world, assess your thoughts, and think deeply (and critically) about present situations that surround you.
