Want some simple steps to clearer skin? You are in the right place! Ladies, a majority of us know what it’s like to struggle with annoying breakouts. Waking up to see a new pimple (or three) can leave us feeling insecure and hopeless. Especially when it feels like you can never get rid of them. It seems like once one goes away, a new one pops up. It’s neverending. Well, that’s not exactly true because I have 10 simple things you can do to prevent breakouts and help get rid of current ones. Keep reading for some simple steps to clearer skin.
1 Drink Water
One of the best simple steps to clearer skin is to drink more water. I know this is not the first time you’ve read about this tip. Trust me, there’s a reason why everybody uses this as a go-to tip. When you’re dehydrated, so is your skin. When your skin is dehydrated, it produces way too much oil trying to make up for the lack of hydration which is a big cause of breakouts. If you’re somebody who simply forgets to drink water, make a habit of drinking a glass when you first wake up and then leave a bottle of water wherever you’re going to be for the majority of the day. The recommended water intake for women is 8 glasses a day. Drink up and see how your skin thanks you!
2 No Picking!
One of the biggest no-no’s, when you get a new pimple, is to pick at it. I’m pretty guilty of this as I know some of you are too. It’s a bad habit, but it’s a habit that you should try breaking immediately. The dirt from your fingers can infect a pimple only making it worse. Even if you wash your hands before, you’re increasing the chances of scarring. One thing that has helped break my habit is before the overwhelming urge to pick takes over, I dab a spot treatment on the pimple immediately, then walk away from the mirror.
3 Treat Your Skin Type
You can find specific skin care in most stores for your skin type. Certain products will say on the packaging if it’s specifically made for dry, oily, or combination skin. If you have dry skin, you want to find something that will bring the moisture back to your skin. If you have oily skin, you want to find something that will help decrease the excessive amount of oil, but not dry it out. I recommend the products that claim to work with all skin types just so you don’t have to stress too much if it’ll be a product that’ll work for you.
4 Mask It
My favorite part of my skincare routine is face masks! There are different kinds, varying from sheet masks, bubble masks, and clay masks. To help clear acne and purify your pores, go for the masks specifically claiming to help clear your acne. My go-to face mask for breakouts is the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush. With Kaolin clay and peppermint oil, this mask does an amazing job of cleaning out your pores and leaving your skin feeling tingly fresh!
5 Clean Your Phone Screen
When you’re constantly touching your phone, dropping it, and shoving it in your pocket, it shouldn’t be a surprise when I say your phone is a home to bacteria. So before you plan on calling somebody and pressing your phone against your cheek, make sure to disinfect it!
6 Use Cold Water before Applying Makeup
Hot water and steam open up your pores. While this is beneficial when you’re washing your face, you don’t want your pores to be open when you’re applying makeup or they will become clogged. If you notice a new pimple after removing your makeup, this might be the reason. Help close your pores and reduce breakouts by splashing some cold water on your face before applying makeup.
7 Go Bare at Least Once a Week
It’s important to give your face a break from makeup at least once a week. If you don’t plan on going anywhere for the day, let your skin breathe and don’t apply any makeup.
8 Change Your Pillow Cases
Believe it or not, your pillowcase loves to collect dirt, oil, and dust. Constantly touching and laying on your dirty pillows won’t help your skin to clear up. To prevent breakouts from your pillowcases, try to wash them once a week.
9 Sleep
Sleep is one of the biggest solutions to most things in life, including acne. When you’re sleeping, your body is repairing itself, including your skin cells. There’s a reason why we see dark eye circles and dull skin when we aren’t sleeping enough. You should also turn down your heater while you sleep. If your room is too warm and you’re waking up in a sweat, your pores will likely get clogged. Turn your sleep into real beauty sleep.
10 Professional Help
If it seems like absolutely nothing is helping your skin, set up an appointment with a dermatologist. You’ll be amazed how quickly they can take a look at your skin and immediately tell what you need to get healthy and clear skin.
